About this atlas

A spelling is not a pronunciation. The same string of letters gets read completely differently depending on which language's rules a reader applies to it — "Chloe" is not "Khloe" in French, and "Xi" is not "Zai" in Mandarin. This tool exists to make that difference audible, instantly, for any word you type.

People use it for a few reasons: founders checking how a product or startup name lands before they commit to it globally, parents curious how a name they're considering sounds beyond their own language, and translators, teachers, and the simply curious who want to hear a word read the way 141 different languages would actually read it.

How the ranking works

The full list ranks 141 languages by number of speakers worldwide, most to least, based on Ethnologue-sourced total-speaker figures. Of those, 81 have real studio-quality neural voices — one native-trained voice per language. For the rest (mostly smaller regional and minority languages our engine doesn't cover yet), the card falls back to whatever voices are already installed on your own device, and is marked accordingly if none are found. We'd rather draw an honest line than pretend every card sounds the same.

Frequently asked

Is it free? Yes — no account, no sign-up, no paywall.

How accurate are the voices? Neural TTS is trained on real native speakers and generally reads a spelling using that language's genuine pronunciation rules, but it's still a machine voice — for anything high-stakes (a wedding toast, a job interview in another language), ask an actual native speaker too.

Why doesn't every language have audio? Our text-to-speech engine's coverage doesn't reach every language yet. We'd rather say that plainly than fake coverage that isn't there.

Can I send someone a specific pronunciation? Yes — type the name, then use "share link" to copy a URL with it pre-filled.
